Obituary for Mrs. Helen Barnes

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Dorothy Helen Barnes, in her 100th year, on Monday, September 3, 2018 in Bethammi Nursing Home.

Helen was a long-time resident of McGregor Avenue who enjoyed spending time with her family, spoiling her beloved cats, sewing, knitting, crocheting, doing crafts, travelling and gardening. She was a member of the I.O.D.E. and St. Patrick's CWL, as well as a Brownie and Girl Guide Leader. Helen avidly played Bridge for 35 years with the same group of ladies and would often be a spare when called upon.

She will be deeply missed by her daughter Ryly Barnes-Lang (Karl); granddaughter Andrea Lang (Chris), Greg and Kim Lang; great grandchildren Jesse, Dustin, Jenna and Jayda Lang; nieces Susan Wall, Anne Dennis, Beth Ryan, Brenda Ryan and nephew Ken Charbonneau.

Predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Robert “Bob” Ernest Barnes; her parents, John and Eva Charbonneau; brother, George Charbonneau and nephew Douglas Charbonneau.

Heartfelt thank you to the caring staff of Bethammi Nursing Home who showed compassion and kindness to Helen on a daily basis.

Cremation has taken place and a private service will take place at a later date. Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 332 N. May Street at Cameron in care of arrangements.

If friends so desire donations may be made to the Bethammi Nursing Home (St. Joseph's Care Group) or the Thunder Bay and District Humane Society.
