Obituary for Mrs. Gail Patricia Yanyk (Gilbert)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Gail Yanyk on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at the age of 76.

Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on October 1, 1942 she later move to Thunder Bay with her parents Ruby and George Holopainen. This is where she met and married the love of her life Ed, on October 24, 1959.

Gail was loved by everyone who met her over her many years working in the service industry.  She worked at many restaurants but her favourite was Chong Gardens, where she always had a smile and a kind word for everyone.

Gail spent many hours sitting around her kitchen table drinking tea and visiting with her family and friends. She loved her bingo and especially enjoyed her times at Shako Lake where she spent many hours fishing in the Argo with Ed and tending to her flower beds.

She was a longtime member of the United church, first at Knox-Shuniah teaching Sunday school and later as a member of Westminster United Church where she was an active member, especially for activities that required her baking and serving in the kitchen.

Gail is survived and will be lovingly remembered by her beloved husband of 59 years, Ed; children, Randy (Susan), Pat (Jerry) Prevost, Carol Yanyk (Jay) and Debbie (Rob) Hutton; grandchildren, Michelle, Benjamin, Jhennyl (Branden), Alyssa-Rose (Jamie), Hannu, Melissa (Chris), Daniel, Roy and Trisha; step-grandchildren Christine (Clint) and Albert. Gail adored her great- granddaughter, Jasmine, whom she loved dearly as well as Royce, Donivan, Aubrey and most recently, her precious great grandson, Leo; also survived by her nephews Kyle and Edward; niece, Suzanne and other relatives.

Predeceased by her parents; sister, Jodie; brother, Bill; grandson, Andre; parents in-law, Frances and Alec; sisters in-law Rose (Alf) and Nagia.

Many thanks to the doctors and nurses at the cancer clinic and TBRHSC and all of the home support she received, especially from Carol Yanyk during her illness, you made Mom's time easier on her. Thank you to her church family for all your prayers and kind words.

Funeral Services for the late Mrs. Gail Yanyk will be held on Thursday, January 24, 2019 AT 11:00am in Westminster United Church with the Rev. Susan Ivany officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery followed by a time of fellowship and reception in the Everest Funeral Chapel. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday evening from 6:00pm until 8pm in the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma.

Donations in Gail's memory may be made to the Northern Cancer Fund or the Westminster Memorial Fund.

Mom, you fought long and hard to be with us. You always had a smile on your face and were always worried about how everyone else was feeling instead of worrying about yourself.
You will always be in our hearts.
We love you.
