Obituary for Mr. Clarence Contin

Mr. Clarence “Binder” Contin VE3WCW, age 78 years, resident of Thunder Bay, passed away on Saturday, August 4, 2018 in St. Joseph's Hospital.

Clarence was born in Kakabeka Falls on May 20, 1940. He was a man of simplicity, straightforwardness and humor. He overcame many challenges and was a man who lived in the moment. Binder’s years of employment was on the farm with Murray and Tom, Kemp Fisheries, Black Foot Minnows, fishing and guiding at Moose Point Lodge, Shikag Lake, Ontario. The Amateur Radio community welcomed VE3WCW in year 2000 and who went on to receive his certificate for Morse Code in 2004. He was an active participant on CQ100 talking with HAMs all over the world through computer communication. We will miss his morning weather reports and good morning hellos.

Volunteering was a love of Binder’s with a long list that included Halloween Patrol, Tim Horton Camp Day, 10 mile Road Race, HS Mother Daughter Walk, Sibley Ski Tour, Lakehead Amateur Radio Club at Hymers Fair and the Christmas Parade (remember the 3 wheeled big trike with all the lights and decorations).

In his final years he made many friends at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Thank you; all the staff, nurses, and doctors for the amazing care. Special thank you to Dana and the ladies, who encouraged him to be involved in the social activities and continuously lifted his spirits.

Clarence will be greatly missed by all friends and family. He was predeceased by mother Gladys Irene, father Joe and sister Robbin.

As per Clarence's wishes, cremation has taken place. Join us in lifting a cup in honour of Clarence, Binder, WCW - Tuesday, August 14, 2018, 10am–Noon, at Tim Horton’s Donuts (beside Tony Roma’s). Private interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery at a later date.
