EMIL STENCER

Mr. Emil Stencer passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at the age of 95.

Emil was born in Fort William on April 5, 1923. He attended Fort William Collegiate and later moved to Toronto, working for Dehavilland/Aircraft. On returning to Thunder Bay, he worked as a purchasing agent for Hawker Siddley/Canada Car.

He transitioned to becoming a Union Representative and organizer for the OPEIU and negotiated ground breaking contracts, as well as being a Mid Canada Council representative. Emil was a long time member of the Fort William Country Club, and enjoyed golf trips with Ron. He and Doreen became snowbirds and enjoyed 12 winters away in Mesa Arizona.When home on Begin Place, they would enjoy time with friends at the Westfort Prosvita or as Emil called it, the "Ponderosa."

Emil was predeceased by his father Nick and mother Dora, step-brother Bill and step-sister Anna.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Doreen; son Lyle (Denise) of Ottawa, step-son Ron Forsyth (Janet) of Edmonton, step-daughter Lynda Cooper (Don) of Thunder Bay; grandchildren Max, Chelsea, Neil, Keith, Ashley and Curtis as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to the staff at Dawson Court and Hogarth Riverview Manor for their excellent care.

Cremation has taken place. Interment and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. If friends so desire, donations to the Alzheimer's Society or St. Joseph's Care Group would be greatly appreciated.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 332 North May Street, Thunder Bay.
